Just posted a string bass for sale to the contrabass classifieds
(http://www.contrabass.com/pages/classified.html), if anyone is
interested (scroll down to "Other").

BTW, if anyone has a classified ad posted that is no longer
applicable, please let me know so that I can clean out some of the
old listings.

Thanks,

Grant

I agree with Grant-  Leo's new CD is very worthwhile if you are interested in
an entire spectrum of what a fine tuba player (and creative composer) can do with his instrument.

All the best,
Jay Easton

Leo Bachmann has a solo tuba CD out, titled "Palette of Sounds" (2000 UNIT Records, UTR 4131), that I am really enjoying.  The disc has 13 works, all composed by LB, and includes a number of modern techniques (multiphonics, circular breathing, etc.).  Experimental and listenable, simultaneously ;-)

Subject: [CB] OctoContrabass Clarinet???

There has been a persistent rumor around where I live (Dayton, Ohio area) of
a special ordered, one-off Selmer OctoContrabass Clarinet made for Wright
State University.  I first heard this rumor when I was shopping at one of
the larger local music stores that supposedly handled the arrangement, and I
mentioned the Contrabass that I had recently ordered to one of the sales
people.  He proceeded to tell me of a Clarinet they recently delivered to
Wright State that was larger than a Contrabass and cost nearly $60,000.  I
dismissed it as an exaggeration or misinformation, but all this speak of
OctoContras lately has peaked my interest again... that coupled with the
fact that a Proffesional Saxophonist in the area, very knowledgeable and
well respected, mentioned Wright States huge clarinet in conversation the
other day. Sooo...  I think I will investigate further into this rumor soon;
to see if it's a misunderstanding, an exaggeration, or if it could possibly
be true.  I don't want to ignite a firestorm of hope; I'm relatively sure it
is bogus... but I thought that it is worth the effort to find out.  Thanx

Alex,
I would recommend swimming.  I have a little game I play with myself for
building up my lung capacity.  I challenge myself to swim the entire length
of the pool underwater in one breath.  I guarantee if you swim on a regular
basis you will become a player with a lot more lung capacity and control.
Weight training is not an aerobic exercise and won't do much for you in the
way of building your lung power.  Check your local YMCA or health club and
see if they have any water related aerobic classes that you could copy.
Heck, check the internet.

The suggestions I've gotten so far are so great...Thank you for being so
prompt, but I didn't explain clearly enough. I have to do training in the
weight room. We have Nautilus machines and dumbells and bikes and the such
and I have to make myself a program using those machines. Any suggestions
with that?
