Paul,
Please make a report of your trip to Vermillion, South Dakota and let us all know about the contra instruments they have. If a lot, I'm sure others of us will want to go!
Mark
By the way, since I just got back in country, I guess I should take this time to do my bio. I don't play anything. Did accordion with my brother as kids. Always wanted to play contra-bassoon so now I am a contra-junkie. I love to be in the audience when you all play, especially solo. I have joined the IDRS so I can hang out with you guys more!
I went to the IDRS Conventions in Rotterdam and Tallahassee. I am the guy doing the contra-bassoon competition in Las Vegas this Christmas.

Darn, I am in Milwaukee during the Nuclear Whales thing in Sept. Anyone who can find out other performances by this group in western USA?

How many of us are there on this list now?
Mark
As of today, we're up to 14 subscribers, including me. Today we welcome Scott Hirsch, editor of the Woodwind Quarterly and driving force (not sure I have the title right...) behind Stranger Creek , and Ken Pergrem from Lockheed.

BTW, anyone interested in the Nuclear Whales performance can order tickets over the telephone at 415-903-6000, using a credit card.

I want to hear a sub-contraflute in solo recital.

Subj: New CD
For all the bass sax fans on the list, I'm recommending the CD "SaxEmble" (that's group & title), (Quest Records, 9 46181-2, 1996). It is all sax and drums, sort of a "Nuclear Whales" meets "World Saxophone Quartet" in style. The musicians are James Carter (alto and bari), Frank Lowe (tenor), Michael Marcus (manzello, bass sax), Cassius Richmond (alto), and Cindy Blackman (drums), with Alex Harding (bari) and Bobby LaVell (tenor). There is lots of bass sax, prominently displayed, on this CD.
Which brings up another idea: is anyone interested in starting up a discography for the various contrabass behemoths? Francis, I imagine you already have something along those lines: If you'd like, we can post it as a link off the Contrabass-L web page.
