Subject: More French
details
Hi,
I've updated the FrenchMart page with the latest: a series of detail images showing the basset horn, an Adolphe Sax alto sax, and Mr. Smiga's restoration of the natural horn. The alto sax is interesting: the details show that it has a range to low B, with no high E or F keys. It looks like there are two octave keys, and the G# is not articulated.
Enjoy!

I spoke with Sandy at the Treasure Trove in San Carlos last week. The Sarrusophone is an Eb Contrabass Buffet-Crampon, bare brass and the price is $8,500.00. She said that unless you are SERIOUS about buying it, she can't let you play it for fear of it being damaged. I met Sandy a couple of times back when I was doing woodwind repair full time. She's a good source for all things collectable. However, you're not going to find any bargins here. She researches the values of horns. She told me that one of the big auction houses (Christie's I think) sells Eb contrabasses up to $18,000.00 ! Chump change ! She also told me that since Conn's are newer, they sell for less.
