Subject: [CB] Selmer EEb contra-alto bag/case??

Hello,
I've a problem(don't we all...) some kind soul on this list might be able
to alleviate:
my Selmer EEb contra-alto came used with a flight case, great for flying,
terrible to carry around(I'm a subway/bus/bike user...): any suggestions
for a gig bag or hard case of any kind, besides the original Selmer?(I
checked their price for a new one...forget it...)...also, I'd rather *not*
build one myself...
Thank you for any suggestion

Regards

Alberto

Hi folks,

having joined the list recently the following introduction might be of
interest to you.

The idea may have been suggested more than once over the years. But with all
this modern technology around it would be possible to put some kind of an
ensemble together. Another option could be the already oldfashioned
technique of mail music; either by sending a DAT or MD around for further
contributions or combining several submissions to one piece. Being a
participant in a recording studio I can run/edit the formats DAT, MD, DCC
and antiquities like reel-to-reel with tapespeeds 19 and 38.

I (41, technical journalist on energysystems) am not a pro in music. It's
only outside working hours I play bass- and baritone sax, contra alto- and
bass clarinet and some other (electronic) gear. Mainly with my group
Quartledoph (Angela Duncan: flutes, recorders, piano; Sandra Burns: flutes,
alto sax, Bb clarinet; Paul Brouwer: guitars, electronics; Wouter Schoon:
clarinets, saxophones; Ahmed Mehmed: drums, percussion, lute; Jelle
Dettingmeyer: electronics; Margaret Lestrada: piano). Mainly a loosly
gathering, boosted by multiple recording.  Participation mainly depends on
the availability of a babysit.

Quartledoph deals with guided and free improvisation of which the result
sometimes gets an electronic treatment. These days we challenge our luck and
skills with notations from the 11th. to the 14th. century. Sometimes we
improvise on the sounds of 'fuzzy' programmed synthesizers or on a
prerecorded structure. And: Angela and I occasionally do private concerts of
flute/bass clarinet-improvisations on folktunes.

Are there any subscribers of the list that live in/around the Hague,
Netherlands, Europe who like to try out refreshing ideas with us? Invite
yourself through j.quist.

Regards,

Jean Quist

DEG Music Products makes replacement cases for EVERY instrument, even the
one-of-a-kind oddball things. They are not as expensive as original cases,
but just as well made. I've found every dealer can order their products.

Hope this helps.

Tom
(no relation to DEG other than as a very satisfied customer--I have 12 of
their cases for different instruments)

Hey Andrew,

Thanks for the idea. There is an "instruments for sale" place on one of the
sites. There was a Slemer Mark VI tenor for sale.... (but pretty pricey).
Just for the heck of it I went looking for new and used in the "band
instrument" category and ran into new Keilworth bass saxes... but could find
the price. Probably a good thing I couldn't find the price... I'm depressed
enough over used horn costs. Joe Sax (or something like that) just had an
overhauled bass Conn on e-bay that went for $5000.

Subject: [CB] Frequency Table

I've finally gotten around to posting a table of frequencies for each
note (well, Bb-1 up to C5 anyway), along with octave indications
(e.g., 16'C, 8'C, lowest note on piano, etc.) and instruments for
which the note is the horn's lowest.  The column for highest notes is
mainly blank so far - a future project...  The page is posted at
http://www.contrabass.com/pages/frequency.html, comments and
corrections are welcome :-)
