Dave
Lowin and I
have been creating music for the last 15+ years, typically using flutes
and guitars, and sometimes keyboards and other woodwinds. Dave sings:
you don't want to hear me sing.
We're Professional Fools™. We don't play live, just like Steely Dan (which is probably about the only way in which we resemble Steely Dan). OK, we played at Dave's wedding: does that count? Here are a few samples of our stuff (Professional Fools™ brand recorded music), recorded at home on an ADAT (that's how old these clips are). It's pretty much tongue-in-check. Both of these pieces were recorded the first night we actually put them together in this form (i.e., the first night we did "Bananas" with lyrics, and the first time we ever played "Thumpin' Lime" - OK, maybe it was the second take), so they're a little bit rough. |
The first is a piece called "Bananas", that
I first wrote
while in graduate school (in 1981). It's been much modified over the
years.
The lyrics and part of the music are by friend and co-conspirator Dave,
who plays flute and sings all the vocals on the track. I'm playing
bass, classical guitar, flutes, and Fender Rhodes.

The other piece is called "The Thumpin'
Lime", which
Dave wrote during (and about) his son Benjamin's gestation. Here, Dave
plays 12 string guitar and flute (deep background), and sings all
vocals.
My contributions are the improvised bari sax, the bass guitar line, and
a little noodling on the Fender Rhodes in the background.
