CD....
Hi,
No contras on this one, but anyone looking for some nice jazz bass clarinet may be interested in "At Dr. King's Table" by the Julius Hemphill Sextet (1997 New World Records, 80524-2). The late Mr. Hemphill (who was also one of the founders of the World Saxophone Quartet) does not appear on this disc, but it is the later group that he started. The musicians are: Marty Erlich (as, ss, fl, af, cl, bcl); Sam Furnace (as, ss); Andy Laster (as, fl); Gene Ghee (ts); Andrew White (ts); Alex Harding (bs).
The disc is good jazz: not too outside, but not "quiet storm" either. Some of the tracks sound like they're equal parts composition and simultaneous improvisation.
