Subject: [CB] Absentee Bidding anyone?
Well, too late to fly out to Vichy (and it looks like its a 4-5 hour drive from Paris). I *do* have, however, an absentee bidding form (in Word format) that you can download at http://www.contrabass.com/2002/bidform.html
I probably won't be able to talk my wife into letting me bid on anything, so don't hold back on my account ;-)
Best of luck!
Grant

Contrabass a anche up on eBay. It looks exactly like the one on the wall of the Orsi factory in one of the pictures on the site. Bidding right at 1500 with the reserve not met.

The recital will be recorded and usually copies are offered for sale through the IDRS . No videotaping is done as far as I know, however.

As a follow-up to our thread of April 24, 2002 , below is a note from the buyer, just received.
Jim
---begin original message---
"I am still exploring and trying to discover which combination of the four valves enables a given key....my understanding when I purchased the horn was that with the correct combination of the four valves.....the horn has capabilities of BBb, EEb, CC, F horns...."
"So far I have been able to get close enough to a CC horn...but needing plenty of alternate fingerings...etc...etc...the sound is not as full as my Amati.......the biggest problem so far, other than finding the right valves, would be playing in tune.........."
"The horn is beautiful and, for me, a great collector's item....now I must continue to experiment....don't know where to get info re: the mechanics of playing this horn."
