Subject: Re: [CB] Frequency lining up with tempo. What I thought was beeing refered to in the tempo/key discussion
was this: If the key of the work is 8hz, then the tempo should
be such that each beat of the tempo lines up exactly with the
waves in the pitched sound. It's easy with exactly 8hz, but with
say 7.63hz,(just a random number) you'd have to slow down a bit
so that the downbeat lines up with the waves. This could be more
vital if you have a lot of sixteenth notes. 16th notes at
240bpm, believe it or not, is 16hz. This could theoretically be
heard as a pitch even if played on a non-pitched instrument. To
get 7.63hz, you'd need to play at 114.45bpm, which isn't all
that fast. 8hz = 120bpm, etc. I think my math is correct. if it
is not, please let me know. Anyway, that's what I got from it.JJ McLallen - the young repair tech
PS -- I got a job in Lakewood, CO. I'm fixing rental clarinets
out of my house for a while, but it's work. YAY!

A friend who attended NFA last week sent this picture of her playing
Paige MacDonald's double contra flute. (She later got a couple of
phone books to stand on.)http://www.tubastuff.com/dcflute.html

of course, flutter tongue, but it doesn't sound quite the same...Grant
