Do they have to be prominent? Orchestrators & Composers write for
instruments they want to hear in an ensemble, not neccessarily as soloists.
The best balance is not to hear any one instrument protrude over the other,
but all are neccessary for the overall sound.

I understand the concept of orchestration.  I was just curious to know
whether or not the instruments in question had a solo or two and could be
heard on a recording, or were just part of the ensemble.  I probably will
agree that my word choice of prominent leaves something to be desired, so in
the future I will make sure and clarify myself to a greater extent.
Sorry for the confusion,
Bret
